Koivu to the Devils?

Saku Koivu could potentially be heading to the Devils. While there are many teams trying to woo the former Canadiens captain, New Jersey has become a late entrant according to TFP's David Pagnotta.

This is a very interesting prospect for the Devils as they are openly looking to move in a more youthful direction. According to a press conference on Thursday, Devils' GM Lou Lamoriello says that its time to see what his young stars can do. That is one of the major reasons behind allowing veterans John Madden and Brian Gionta walk on Wednesday.

Speculation has Koivu wanting a 3 or 4 year deal, but its presumed that the Devils would not be willing to go the fourth because of his age.

However, adding a veteran leader could be worth it. The new players coming up need that veteran leadership and if Koivu can bring that, plus his scoring touch to New Jersey, good things could happen.

If the Devils fail to retain Brendan Shannahan, Koivu might be a younger, but slightly more expensive option.

Leafs sign Komisarek [Original: Komisarek Getting a lot of Offers]

Former Montreal Canadiens defenseman Mike Komisarek is gaining a lot of interest from teams around the NHL as he hit the free agent market this afternoon, reports Ken Holland of the USA Today.

In the first hour, Holland says that Komisarek received at least 10 offers for his services.

For Devils fans who were hoping the team would acquire the speedy defender, this gives a significant hit to their aspirations. Teams will undoubtedly be overpaying for the defender, who amassed 11 points in 66 games with the Habs.

The last rumor I had heard was that Komisarek was looking for a multi-year deal with upwards of $5 million annually.

This will almost certainly place him well outside of the Devils price range as they still need to sign Restricted Free Agent Travis Zajac to a contract.

But with 10 teams in the hunt, odds are still good they [the Devils] at least have their hat in the ring of potential suitors.

Prediction: Islanders with another obscene contract lasting the better part of a decade. But now with Toronto being in, anything is possible.

4:50 UPDATE: With Jaroslav Spacek and Hal Gill signing in Montreal, I will join thefourthperiod.com's David Pagnotta in saying that it is more than likely Komisarek will not be back to the Habs next season.

6:00 UPDATE: Leafs sign Komisarek. 5 years, $22.5 million

Cammalleri to Montreal

Former Calgary and Los Angeles forward Mike Cammalleri has reportedly signed with Montreal.

The deal is 5 years long, $6 million per.

Montreal may have overpaid a bit for the very offensive Cammalleri, but pair him with the newly acquired Gomez could provide the Habs with a very potent offensive threat.

Another rumor out of Montreal is that they are very interested in bringing in Devils' unrestricted free agent winger Brian Gionta. After acquiring Gomez, the Habs made it known they would love to reuinte two-thirds of EGG line in Montreal.

Could this be the start of a very speedy line?

Mike Rupp to the Penguins

2 years, $825,00 per year.

This leaves another roster spot open for a young player to fill once camp opens.

I would, however, love to hear more news about Gionta, Madden or even Zajac for that matter....

Clemmer heading South

Andy Strickland is reporting that Scott Clemmensen is heading to Florida after signing a 3 year deal worth an annual $1.2 million.

While it saddens me to see him leave the Devils, especially after how critical he was to the team last season, I'm happy to see him going to a team where he will get a considerable increase in playing time behind someone other than Martin Brodeur.

I imagine he will be competing with Tomas Vokun for the starting role once camp opens in August.

Hossa to Hawks, Clemmensen not bound for St. Louis

-Marion Hossa, the player who lost back to back Stanley Cups with two different teams, is a member of the Chicago Blackhawks.

12 years/$5.2 million

For a player who disappears in the playoffs, the Blackhawks gave way too long of a deal here.

-With St. Louis just inking Ty Conklin to a 2 year deal worth $1.3 million, former Devils backup Scott Clemmensen's list is now down to 2 potential teams. It is unclear if the Devils are one of the 2, but commen sense suggests not. I think Detroit could be a landing spot, as well as Florida.

-Craig Anderson has been signed by the Colorado Avalanche.

Rangers are 1 of 4 teams in on Scuderi

Former Pittsburgh Defenseman Rob Scuderi is being coveted by four teams, including the New York Rangers, according to the Pittsburgh Tribune.

This would be the first major move following the trading, or salary dumping, of Scott Gomez to the Canadiens. Provided the deal is not similiar to the Wade Redden move of last summer, this would be a great addition for the Blueshirts.

Their top priority right now should be acquiring a 20-30 goal scorer, but suring up their backline will also help. The team has 3 significant Restricted Free Agents in Brandon Dubinsky, Ryan Callahan and Nikoli Zherdev, but other the Rangers would have ample time to decide whether or not to match any other offers from other clubs.

Scuderi put himself on the map with an outstanding performance this season, and an even better playoffs, where he was a critical component on the Penguins blue line, along with Sergi Gonchar.

The Wild and Stars are the two other confirmed teams, with the Lightning believe to be the 4th.

Prediction: As much as I could see the Rangers being Scuderi's new home, if the rumors of Tampa being in on the sweepstakes are true, I see him going there. They are again, stopping at nothing to get as much defense as they can, but they continue to forget you need to put pucks in the net to win, and Vinny Lecavalier, Martin St. Louis, Ryan Malone and Steve Stamkos cannot do it alone.

Greene Stays

Tom Guglitti is reporting that defenseman Andy Greene has re-signed with the New Jersey Devils.

Terms to follow, guessing in the ballpark of $500-$600k considering they did not make him a qualifying offer of $660k by 5pm on Monday.

Ohlund To Bolts

as per NHL network.

7 years, $3.75 million cap hit

Great move by the Lightning as they now have a proven mentor for 2nd overall pick Victor Hedman

--broke before eklund--

Vancouver keeps the Twins

Not a real shocker here, but the Canucks have signed Daniel and Henrik Sedin to identical 5 year deals worth $6.1 million a season.

A great deal, considering they now are the only 2 players who have scored 70 points or more in each season since the lockout who make less than $7 million anually.
